Goldenboy joins The Rentals on US Summer tour
After several extensive tours on the West Coast in support of their sophomore album Underneath The Radio (EenieMeenie Records), the gang around Shon Sullivan is slated to join seminal neo new wave pioneers The Rentals on all of their US summer dates.
Goldenboy front man, Shon Sullivan, who will also be featured as special guest on The Rentals’ set says: “We have been friends for so long, so this is really a dream come true.”
Goldenboy will be on board right form the start when The Rentals kick things off at the end of June with several intimate warm-up dates on the West Coast culminating in a residency at LA’s famed Spaceland, every Saturday in July.
The band’s 2003 debut album “Blue Swan Orchestra” quickly became a favorite of famed music director Nic Harcourt of KCRW, making his list of top 10 favorite albums of all time. Their song “Summertime,” which featured guest vocals by Elliott Smith, also found it’s way into HBO’s hit series “Six Feet Under”. The band supported “Blue Swan Orchestra” by going on the road with such well know acts as Bright Eyes, Neil Finn, The Church, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks and Grandaddy.
“Underneath the Radio” is the continuing tale of nostalgia of times gone by, of haunting memories and the bitter sweet joy in their revival. This soulful follow up features another impressive list of collaborators including seasoned veteran Neil Finn, Rentals front man and founding Weezer member Matt Sharp, and singer-songwriter Lisa Germano among others.
The band’s “End Of Forever”, from their sophomore release “Underneath the Radio” (Eenie Meenie Records) is featured on the current feature film “Georgia Rule” starring Lindsay Lohan and Jane Fonda (additional artist on the sound track include among others: Elliott Smith and Bob Dylan)
The nickname Goldenboy sprung from Sullivan’s effortless ability to switch from cello to guitar to piano and bass while on the road with the late Elliott Smith.
